Adoption Process
PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary adopts some of our residents to suitable, caring homes. We do not adopt our donkeys out as guard animals or breeders. We mostly adopt our donkeys in pairs, but occasionally have single donkeys available. Check our adoption section frequently for updates. Please note, we do not deliver donkeys between late December and mid March due to poor weather conditions for trailering. However, we can still get the adoption process started. Tour of the sanctuary
With this first step of our adoption process, we give our potential adopters a behind the scenes tour of the sanctuary to see the work that we do for our animals and to address any questions first time donkey owners may have. This will allow you to judge whether or not a donkey is the right fit for your home.
Interview
The interview allows us to set forth our boundaries and expectations, as well as go over our adoption contract. After the interview, we are better able to find the right pair of donkeys for you. Please have your veterinarian's information and the name of your farrier with you at the time of your interview.
In-Home Visit
Once we have met at the sanctuary, we will schedule an in home visit. We do this to ensure our animals are going to a safe environment with ample food/water and plenty of shelter. Fencing is inspected for weaknesses and hay is checked for quality.
Meet your Match
Now it's time to meet your match! By this time, we have worked with you in selecting a pair of donkeys that would best fit your home and lifestyle. You are welcome to come by the sanctuary and visit with your potential pair before making the final decision.
Adoption Day
After the final decision is made and you have chosen your donkeys, we coordinate with you to find a day to deliver your new family members. One of our volunteers will load up and trailer the donkeys to your home. Please keep in mind, PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary is an excellent resource. Reach out if you have any difficulties finding good hay, a reliable farrier, or if you have any health concerns about the donkeys. We are here to help!
